The oval-shaped coin “Papilio Alexanor” is dedicated to a rare butterfly of the Palaearctic ecozone. The beautiful yellowish butterfly with typical black tiger-strips, also called Southern Swallowtail, is a small member of the family PAPILIONIDAE.
On the obverse there is the inscription of the coin’s face value. There is also the legend “Ag 925 24 gr” indicating the designation of metal, its fineness and the coin’s pure weight as well as the inscription of the coin’s mintage year. The upper part of the coin’s obverse includes the embossed legend “National Bank of Kazakhstan” in Kazakh. There is also a semiabstract image of a butterfly and a composition of flowers. There is the trademark of Kazakhstan Mint of the National Bank of Kazakhstan above the image.
The reverse side of the coin features the image of three butterflies of Alexanor the first image being Matted, the second one - gilded and the third one – holographic. There is also a The Papilio Alexanor feeds while resting its legs on the flower for stability but fluttering rapidly to take the weight. It flies from April to July in a single generation, in mountainous regions (1700 m.). In the lower part of the coin there is an artistic Composition of flowers. Along the rim of the coin there is the inscription " Papilio Alexanor " both in Kazakh and Latin. The reverse image and the legends are embossed. The lateral surface of the coin is grooved.
