This eye-catching Edelweiss coin is dedicated to one of the best-known mountain flowers, belonging to the sunflower family. The name Edelweiss comes from German edel (meaning noble) and weiss (meaning white). The scientific name, Leontopodium, means "lion's paw". The plant is unequally distributed and prefers rocky limestone places at 2000–2900 m altitude. It has been considered a legendary flower for its inaccessibility.
The obverse of the Kazakhstan coin is decorated with an embossed composition of leaves. To the left of the image, there are the legends indicating the metal fineness, the pure weight and face value of the coin. The inscription indicating the name of the issuing bank both in Kazakh and English and its logo can be seen along the rim of the coin.
The reverse side of the edelweiss silver coin features the astonishing composition of three beautiful flowers of edelweiss against the background of a stylized stony surface. One of the flowers is depicted as a hologram which makes the whole image particularly elegant and moving. Above the image, there is the inscription of the issuing year. The upper part of the reverse comprises the legends of the flower’s name both in Latin and Kazakh. Presented as a precious gift, this edelweiss coin will surely add special charm and appeal to any celebration.
