To commemorate the 100th anniversary of the RMS Titanic, Tuvalu has presented a new silver coin struck by the Perth Mint of Australia. The coin under the title “RMS Titanic Transatlantic White Star Line” is dedicated to the world’s most famous passenger ship disaster of April 15, 1912.
Shown on the obverse of the silver coin, there is the portrait of Her Majesty Elizabeth II. Along the rim of the coin, there are the inscriptions indicating the Queen’s name, the face value of the coin, the name of the issuing country as well as the issuing year.
The reverse design features a colored representation of the White Star Line’s poster design of Titanic against the background of the ocean and sky. Titanic was a British registered four funneled ocean liner built for the transatlantic passenger and mail service between Southampton and New York. The disaster happened on the night of 14 April 1912 when, during her maiden voyage, Titanic hit an iceberg and went to the bottom two hours and forty minutes later, early on 15 April 1912. The reverse of this silver Titanic release also contains the inscriptions indicating the name of the coin and the standard of coinage.
